Boat License Requirements in Europe

European boating qualifications need to be checked against the exact vessel and waters. A certificate accepted for one trip may not answer every question elsewhere.

Greece

Build a precise question

Send the operator your intended country, departure area, boat details, and whether you plan to take the helm. Ask which authority sets the applicable qualification requirements. Avoid relying on a country-wide summary when the distinction between inland and coastal waters could change the answer you receive.

Ask about recognition

If you hold an ICC or another certificate, ask whether that specific document is accepted for this vessel and operating area. Ask separately about inland-waterway endorsements and radio qualifications where relevant. Provide the certificate name and issuing body, rather than describing it only as an international boating licence.

Separate acceptance from readiness

Operator acceptance, official requirements, and your practical confidence are separate matters. Ask what documents should be brought and whether experience evidence is requested. If the answer remains unclear, consult the relevant maritime or inland authority. A skippered option is worth discussing while those questions are resolved.
