HejBoat Insurance Guide
Why Boat Insurance Matters
Boating is about freedom, but also about safety and responsibility. Whether you are renting a boat or listing your own, having the right insurance protects everyone on board. It covers unexpected costs, legal liability and gives peace of mind while you enjoy the water.

What You Need to Know About Boat Rental Insurance
Insurance is a key part of a safe and smooth boating experience. This guide explains:
> What coverage boat owners and renters need
> What is and isn’t covered
> What to ask your insurance provider
> How to stay protected before, during and after your trip
_
For Boat Owners
If you are listing your boat on HejBoat, you are responsible for making sure your boat is fully insured for rental use. Standard private policies may not include this.
Your insurance should include:
> Hull insurance: covers damage to your boat
> Third-party liability: covers injury or damage to others
> Charter use coverage: allows peer to peer or commercial rentals
> Personal accident insurance: optional but useful for skippers and guests
Before listing, ask your insurer:
> Is rental use allowed?
> Are renters covered while operating the boat?
> Are there skipper requirements or usage restrictions?
Important: Even if your boat is insured, renters are still responsible for their actions. Negligence or careless behavior is not covered.

For Renters
Renting a boat is fun and flexible, but comes with responsibility. You are expected to:
> Handle the boat carefully and follow all rules
> Ask the owner what is covered
> Understand what you are liable for
> Consider personal travel or rental insurance, especially for longer trips or added protection
_
What Is Not Covered
Insurance policies vary, but common exclusions include:
> Damage caused by alcohol, recklessness or rule violations
> Incidents not reported or not handled correctly
> Use of the boat outside agreed conditions (night use, bad weather)
> Personal items on board
> Skippers or crew not named in the policy
